Google planned to end support for Chrome OS Apps. While Google has extended the timeline, we will continue to prepare for this change by ending support for our Chrome OS App in August.

We are asking all customers to switch to the Zoom Progressive Web Application (PWA). If any users on your account are still using the Chrome OS App, they will need to migrate to the PWA. To prepare for the academic year ahead, we recommend migrating users before Aug. 1.

As we sunset the Chrome OS App, these are some key dates to be aware of:

  • Aug. 1 - We recommend migrating users prior to this date. Admins can do this through an account-level switch
  • Nov. 5 - The app will no longer be searchable in the Chrome Web Store.
  • Jan. 15, 2023 - When Chrome OS users click Zoom links, the PWA will automatically launch. This change will be made by Zoom.
  • Feb. 1, 2023 - The Chrome OS App will be fully removed and no longer available.

The PWA is an installable application that provides central administration and supports popular Zoom features, such as:

  • Live interpreters for multiple language translation channels
  • Self-select & other advanced breakout room features
  • Advanced Polling
  • 25-person Gallery view (on supported machines)
  • Virtual background & blur (on supported machines)
  • Background masking feature to help preserve participant privacy
  • Zoom Whiteboard
  • And more!

How do I migrate my users?

  • Account-level update: Account administrators can migrate all users by enabling the “Auto-launch PWA when joining a meeting on Chrome OS” option at the account level. This can be found by clicking into account management, then account settings.
  • Individual users: Users can install the Zoom PWA from the Google Play store (click the link or search ‘Zoom for Chrome PWA’ in the Play store) or by going to pwa.zoom.us/wc and clicking on the ‘install’ icon in the Chrome browser address bar.

We strongly recommend that all users update to the most recent version of Chrome OS to maintain feature compatibility and continued improved performance.
