Local Zoom Session Recordings Not Converting
If you are working on a Windows computer and Zoom session recordings are not editable by 3rd party software packages. An issue took place in the export and conversion process. In place of the normal .mp4 video files, you will see a file labeled "Double click to convert". Step 1 - Right-click the file and select Open With and select Choose another app from the pop-up menu. Step 2 - Check the box Always use this app when opening .zoom files. Step 3 - Click More Apps and then Look for another App on this PC. Step 4 - In the File window that opens, Find the file type option list to the right of the file name field (directly above the Open button). Select All Files. Step 5 - Click This PC in the file tree to the left. Step 6 - In the search field in the top right corner of the window, search for " ztscoder.exe " + Note, the search for this program will take a minute or two. Step 7 - When the program is found by the search, click on the file icon and then select Open. Check for Zoom updates.
Keeping your Zoom Client application on your computer up to date is an important thing to do at least twice a year. If the Zoom Client program on your computer is too far out of date, different functions within Zoom will become unreliable or unavailable. If the installed version of the Zoom Client on your computer is more than 6 months old, you will not be allowed into Zoom Meetings or Webinars. This is for security reasons and can not be prevented by the College Technology Division. If you are using the web browser option to start and join Zoom meetings, keeping your preferred web browser up to date is critical, but there is nothing Zoom specific to update. If you are using Zoom on a mobile device like an iPad or a phone, open the device's App Store and find Zoom Client for Meetings. If updates are available, you will be presented a button to update instead of opening the program. *** DO NOT RUN UPDATES MID CALL. ZOOM WILL RESTART *** If you are using a Windows Computer Step 1- Make sure that the zoom application is open on your computer. Step 2 - Look in the lower right corner of the screen (by the clock). In the taskbar along the bottom of the screen you might see a small Zoom logo. If you do see the small Zoom logo, go to Step 3. Step 2B - If you don't see the small Zoom logo near the clock, click the up arrow and you will find the small Zoom logo in the popup window that opens. Step 3 - Right-Click on the small Zoom logo and select Check for Updates Step 4 - Follow the update prompts shown. The following steps are available to users with a Mac OSX computer or a windows computer The following steps are for people running the installed Zoom program on a Windows based computer and not iOS or mobile devices including but not limited to iPads. Application updates SHOULD NOT be conducted while a meeting or a record export is in progress. If you are using the installed desktop version of Zoom, you first need to sign into the app. Before entering the username and password, take note of the first 3 digits of the version number found at the bottom of this window (Circled here in red). Once you sign into the Zoom app on your computer, click your profile picture as noted below by the arrow. In the menu list presented, you will see Check for Updates (highlighted here). At this point, a new window will open either indicating that your Zoom installation is already up to date, or you will be presented the option of installing the updates.

Zoom will end support for legacy Chrome OS App in Aug. 2022
Google planned to end support for Chrome OS Apps. While Google has extended the timeline, we will continue to prepare for this change by ending support for our Chrome OS App in August. We are asking all customers to switch to the Zoom Progressive Web Application (PWA). If any users on your account are still using the Chrome OS App, they will need to migrate to the PWA. To prepare for the academic year ahead, we recommend migrating users before Aug. 1. As we sunset the Chrome OS App, these are some key dates to be aware of: Aug. 1 - We recommend migrating users prior to this date. Admins can do this through an account-level switch. Nov. 5 - The app will no longer be searchable in the Chrome Web Store. Jan. 15, 2023 - When Chrome OS users click Zoom links, the PWA will automatically launch. This change will be made by Zoom. Feb. 1, 2023 - The Chrome OS App will be fully removed and no longer available. The PWA is an installable application that provides central administration and supports popular Zoom features, such as: Live interpreters for multiple language translation channels Self-select & other advanced breakout room features Advanced Polling 25-person Gallery view (on supported machines) Virtual background & blur (on supported machines) Background masking feature to help preserve participant privacy Zoom Whiteboard And more! How do I migrate my users? Account-level update: Account administrators can migrate all users by enabling the “Auto-launch PWA when joining a meeting on Chrome OS” option at the account level. This can be found by clicking into account management, then account settings. Individual users: Users can install the Zoom PWA from the Google Play store (click the link or search ‘Zoom for Chrome PWA’ in the Play store) or by going to pwa.zoom.us/wc and clicking on the ‘install’ icon in the Chrome browser address bar. We strongly recommend that all users update to the most recent version of Chrome OS to maintain feature compatibility and continued improved performance. For more information about using the Zoom PWA for Chrome OS, please visit our support pages or reach out to our Support Team.

Setting Zoom to automatically check for updates
In the summer of 2022, Zoom announced an upcoming requirement that all users will need to keep their installed application within 6 months of the current release. The deadline for this change is set for February 4, 2023. This policy was set due to issues that were happening when a broad mixture of Zoom application versions joined the same meeting at the same time. This is a world-wide requirement and the College has no means or desire to override this policy. This policy will not have any impact on your Endicott issued Zoom account; or any scheduled meetings; or any cloud recordings. If your Zoom version is 5.10.2 or older, you will be able to open and log into the Zoom app on your device, but you will be unable to connect to any Zoom meeting or webinar starting on February 4th. CLICK HERE <== for the steps on how to check for Zoom updates. If the installed version of the app is too old to adhere to this policy, you will have to run the update. If the version is within the acceptable version window, you will be given the option to update. It is strongly recommended that you take a moment to follow the steps below to engage the automatic check. The default settings in Zoom leave it to the end users to check for updates, the steps below turn on an automatic check and give you the option to install immediately or later. How to enable automatic updates and set update cadence By default, automatic update is enabled in standard installation packages (EXE, DMG), and disabled in mass distribution packages for managed systems (MSI, PKG). This can be manually controlled in the desktop client settings. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client. Click your profile picture, then click Settings. On the General tab in the Zoom Updates section, click the check box to enable/disable Automatically keep Zoom up to date. Click the dropdown menu to select how often you would like to have updates installed: Slow: (Default) Provides fewer updates and better stability. Fast: Provides the newest features and updates. Update cadences Below is more information about the update cadences and how those will impact your desktop client: Fast: For users that are interested in the latest features and functionality, select this option to get updates sooner and more frequently. Zoom typically releases client updates on a monthly cadence. Upon release, the new client will be distributed to a percentage of random users on the fast track each day. Slow: For users that want less frequent changes and a more mature feature set, select this option. Slow is the default for both individual and managed users. Zoom will determine if/when a new version is promoted to the Slow track based on telemetry and internal metrics. Regardless of which track is chosen, the update is only installed when… Your device has be selected as one of the random devices eligible to upgrade that day Your Zoom desktop client has been restarted Note: In the event that Zoom needs to provide a security update to the Zoom desktop client to keep users safe, those updates will be distributed to the entire audience simultaneously.
